Hello, I am Jonathan Russell, of Southam, Warwickshire, England. I am 49, married, and work as a care assistant.
This year, 2014, I intend to walk one thousand miles. There are three reasons:
- Because I enjoy walking, but in the past few years I have done very little and even become a bit agorophobic.
- To improve my physical fitness. I'm not very keen on exercise, but approaching fifty and lugging a bit of a spare tyre around I know that I need to improve my physical condition.
- To raise money. A charity I came across and wish very much to support is the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture. (I have a linked JustGiving page, and would be delighted if you could make a donation there. My initial target is £100, but I hope to raise much more.)
That's it so far! I need to walk just under twenty miles a week, or 2¾ miles a day. I'm not including excursions to the shops or my plodding backwards and forwards at work, although I reckon I do a mile or two there each day, only actual walks in the countryside will be included in the mileage total, and every walk will be photographed and blogged here.
If you're wondering what I look like, I'm the one on the right in the picture below.
Thank for reading my blog. To make a donation to the charity I'm supporting, please click on the following text: Freedom from Torture (The Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture). To learn more about their work, click on www.freedomfromtorture.org.
